Accessibility Policy

These standards are developed to remove barriers and increase accessibility for persons with disabilities in the areas of information and communications and employment. This policy outlines the organization’s commitment to improving opportunities for people with disabilities.

Commitment

The organization is committed to treating all individuals in a way that allows them to maintain their dignity and independence. We believe in integration and equal opportunity. We are committed to meeting the needs of persons with disabilities in a timely manner by preventing and removing barriers to accessibility and by meeting applicable accessibility legislation requirements.

General Provisions
Accessibility Plan

The organization will develop, maintain, and document an Accessibility Plan outlining its strategy to prevent and remove barriers and improve opportunities for persons with disabilities.

The plan will be reviewed and updated at least once every five years and will be made available on the organization’s website. Upon request, the plan will be provided in an accessible format.

Training

The organization will provide training on applicable accessibility legislation and human rights laws as they relate to persons with disabilities. Training will be tailored to the roles and responsibilities of employees and other staff.

Training will be provided to:

All employees
Individuals involved in developing accessibility policies
Individuals who provide goods, services, or facilities on behalf of the organization

Training will also be provided when changes are made to accessibility policies.

Information and Communications

The organization is committed to meeting the communication needs of people with disabilities and will consult with individuals to determine appropriate solutions.

Accessible Emergency Information

Public emergency information will be provided in accessible formats upon request. Employees with disabilities will receive individualized emergency response information where necessary.

Accessible Formats and Communication Supports

Accessible formats and communication supports will be provided upon request in a timely manner, taking into account individual accessibility needs. The organization will consult with the person making the request to determine suitability and will inform the public about the availability of these supports.

Accessible Websites and Web Content

All websites and web content will conform to recognized accessibility standards (such as WCAG 2.0 Level AA), except where not practicable.

Feedback

The organization will ensure that its feedback processes are accessible and will provide accessible formats or communication supports upon request.

Employment

The organization is committed to fair and accessible employment practices, including accommodations throughout recruitment and employment.

Recruitment

The organization will notify employees and the public that accommodations are available for applicants with disabilities. This will be included in job postings.

Applicants selected for assessment will be informed that accommodations are available upon request. If requested, appropriate accommodations will be provided in consultation with the applicant.

Successful candidates will be informed of policies supporting employees with disabilities.

Informing Employees of Supports

Employees will be informed of policies supporting individuals with disabilities, including job accommodations. This information will be provided to new employees and updated as policies change.

Accessible Formats and Communication Supports for Employees

Upon request, accessible formats and communication supports will be provided for information needed to perform job duties and for general workplace information.

Workplace Emergency Response Information

Individualized emergency response information will be provided to employees with disabilities when required. With consent, this information may be shared with designated support personnel.

This information will be reviewed when:

The employee changes roles or location
Accommodation needs are updated
Emergency policies are reviewed
Documented Individual Accommodation Plans

The organization will maintain a process for developing documented accommodation plans for employees with disabilities. Plans may include accessible formats, communication supports, and emergency response information.

Return to Work Process

A documented return-to-work process will support employees returning after disability-related absences, including the use of accommodation plans.

Performance Management, Career Development, and Redeployment

Accessibility needs and accommodation plans will be considered in performance management, career development, advancement, and redeployment decisions.
